2026 Volvo EX30 Single Motor Isn’t as Affordable as Promised
After many delays, the rear-wheel-drive EX30 reaches the U.S. for 2026, but its starting price has risen from the original $36,145.

The Volvo EX30 Single Motor finally reaches the U.S. for the 2026 model year, carrying a 261-mile EPA range estimate.
The Single Motor will start at $40,245, substantially higher than the $36,145 starting price Volvo originally quoted when it unveiled the EX30 in 2023.
The 2026 model year also brings an off-road-oriented Cross Country model, which starts at $49,445 and has a maximum range of just 227 miles.
UPDATE 10/7/25, 1:55 p.m.: While the Single Motor variant will only be offered in the Plus trim for 2026, a Volvo spokesperson told Car and Driver that the brand is still exploring the possibility of bringing the Core trim, which had carried that original $36,145 starting price, to the U.S. in the future.
When Volvo unveiled the EX30 in 2023, it promised to pair its sleek, Scandinavian design with an affordable price. While this has been the case for European shoppers, the U.S. market only ended up receiving the pricier, dual-motor variant when the EX30 finally came stateside for the 2025 model year. Now, Volvo is finally ready to launch the entry-level, single-motor EX30 in the United States, but the price has crept up a bit since Volvo’s original announcement.
At its reveal, Volvo touted a $36,145 starting price for the base Core trim with the single-motor powertrain, and the EX30 was supposed to reach dealers in the summer of 2024. However, before that happened, Volvo announced that the EX30 would be delayed to 2025 due to “changes in the global automotive landscape.” Volvo then changed its mind again, bringing the first Twin Motor Performance variants to U.S. dealers by the end of 2024. The single-motor was said to arrive in 2025, and now Volvo has confirmed it will finally be available in the U.S. for the 2026 model year.

Unfortunately, the $36K starting price has changed. The 2026 EX30 Single Motor will now require $40,245, since it is now being offered exclusively in the Plus equipment level. That makes it $6000 less than the Plus Twin Motor model, which produces 422 horsepower.
The 268-hp rear-wheel-drive single-motor variant is rated by the EPA at an estimated 261 miles of range, and Volvo says charging from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes. The Twin Motor’s extra power comes with only a slight hit to range, with the EPA rating it at 253 miles. In Car and Driver testing, however, the EX30 Twin Motor performed extremely poorly, returning 160 miles on our 75-mph highway range test.

Volvo is also adding a more ruggedly styled Cross Country variant to the 2026 EX30 lineup, which comes solely with the dual-motor powertrain and Ultra equipment level. The Cross Country is not only the most expensive EX30, starting at $49,445, but also the model with the worst range. It’s rated at 227 miles when fitted with the 19-inch wheels and a meager 203 miles when fitted with the 18-inchers.
