A New King Emerges The term \”concours d’elegance\” often evokes images of immaculate vintage automobiles, white gloves, and sun-drenched lawns in Monterey. For decades, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has stood as the undisputed zenith of automotive exclusivity, a gathering of legendary marques and priceless classics that draws elite collectors and enthusiasts from around the globe. This prestigious event, typically anchoring the extensive Monterey Car Week, has long been regarded as the ultimate benchmark for automotive excellence and sophistication.
Yet, in the ever-evolving landscape of the collector car world, a seismic shift is underway. A new titan is challenging the long-established reign of Pebble Beach, and it is rapidly transforming the expectations of what constitutes a world-class automotive gathering. I am referring, of course, to the Las Vegas Concours, the annual showcase held at the opulent Wynn Las Vegas. Over the past few years, this event has evolved from a regional curiosity into a formidable force, challenging the conventions of traditional concours and establishing itself as the premier destination for modern hypercar debuts and marques pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering. Why The Quail and Pebble Beach Are Being Challenged To understand the seismic shift in the concours landscape, we must first dissect the traditions of its predecessors. For years, The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering has served as an exclusive appetizer to the main event on Sunday. Held in the verdant surroundings of the Quail Lodge Golf Club, it has traditionally catered to an audience with a strong appetite for late-model, high-end performance vehicles and bespoke hypercars. As the automotive industry has pivoted towards electrification and extreme performance, The Quail’s position has been increasingly challenged by these new arrivals. The collapse of the Geneva International Auto Show left a void in the supercar calendar that The Quail has adeptly filled. Recent years have seen a succession of pivotal vehicle debuts at The Quail. For instance, the Lamborghini Aventador debuted in 2011, followed by the Bugatti Chiron in 2016. In subsequent years, manufacturers have chosen The Quail as the launchpad for their most exclusive models. Take, for example, the Lamborghini Temerario, the successor to the Huracán, which made its public debut at The Quail in 2024. Similarly, the ultra-exclusive seven-figure Fenomeno was unveiled at the same event in 2025. Bugatti, a traditional fixture at Geneva, has increasingly utilized The Quail for its new models, including the Chiron Super Sport and Mistral. This migration of new-metal debuts away from Pebble Beach indicates a strategic shift by manufacturers to connect with the growing contingent of collectors focused on modern performance vehicles rather than purely vintage classics. Financial Implications: For these manufacturers, the cost of participating in these exclusive events is astronomical. Establishing a prominent display at The Quail requires a substantial investment, typically costing upwards of $400,000 for a few hours of exhibition time. When juxtaposed with the accessibility of The Las Vegas Concours, this high barrier to entry becomes increasingly difficult to justify. The Las Vegas Concours: A New Contender Emerges Until recently, The Quail’s position in the automotive kingdom appeared secure. However, my experience at the 2025 Las Vegas Concours (officially known as Concours at Wynn Las Vegas) marked a pivotal moment in this evolving narrative. While the 2024 edition had demonstrated the potential of this event, the 2025 iteration transcended all expectations, solidifying its position not just as a major competitor to The Quail, but potentially as the new leader in the premium automotive gathering circuit. This evolution is mirrored in the broader collector car market, where shifting consumer preferences have forced a reevaluation of traditional concours. Modern collectors, particularly those in the high-net-worth demographic, are increasingly drawn to the latest technological innovations in hybrid powertrains, lightweight composite materials, and electric hypercars. The Las Vegas Concours has strategically positioned itself to cater to these preferences, creating an environment that is both technologically forward-looking and steeped in automotive history. The cost of entry to these events has also become a significant factor. While attending The Quail can be prohibitively expensive, with single tickets costing $1,600 for first-time attendees, The Las Vegas Concours remains significantly more affordable. Tickets are available for around $100, offering a fraction of the cost for a similar level of access to the manufacturers. This discrepancy in pricing has led several manufacturers to question their continued participation in The Quail, with some musing about whether Las Vegas and Miami are sufficient destinations to engage with the current demographic of car enthusiasts. Real-World Implication: The financial calculus for manufacturers is compelling. The significant cost savings of exhibiting at the Las Vegas Concours—approximately 1/20th the cost of participation at The Quail—makes it an attractive alternative. For collectors, the lower ticket prices and more reasonable hotel costs in Las Vegas make it an accessible destination for experiencing some of the world’s most exclusive vehicles without the financial strain of other premium events.
A Feast of Automotive Masterpieces The 2025 Las Vegas Concours was, in a word, spectacular. The event showcased an unparalleled collection of ultra-rare and significant automobiles, rivaling, and in many cases surpassing, the caliber of marques seen at other concours. The Bugatti section alone was a testament to the event’s growing stature. The Wynn featured a staggering 48 Bugatti Veyrons on display. Considering only 450 Veyrons were produced globally, and only 100 were sold in North America, this represents more than 10 percent of all Veyrons ever built. The gathering included a Bugatti Divo, a Chiron Super Sport, and a replica of the upcoming Tourbillon (the 18-cylinder hybrid that will replace the Chiron). The star, however, was a Bugatti Vitesse Super Sport celebrating the Veyron’s 20th anniversary, a museum-quality example that captivated attendees. The popularity of Pagani amongst the younger generation of car collectors is undeniable, and the Las Vegas Concours catered to this demographic with a remarkable display of Paganis. There were more than 40 Paganis in attendance, including several Zondas (including a Zonda Revolution), dozens of Huayras, and several Utopias. The most exclusive debut was the Huayra Codalunga Speedster, a limited-edition model slated for production of just 10 units, each priced at approximately $7,000,000 before taxes and tariffs. The vehicle displayed belonged to Apple CEO Tim Cook. The fact that Horatio Pagani, the founder of Pagani Automobili, chose this event to introduce the Codalunga and accept a Lifetime Achievement Award from host Justin Bell speaks volumes about the growing prestige of the Las Vegas Concours. The Lamborghini pavilion was equally astonishing. The 2025 event was the largest Lamborghini gathering ever assembled, with approximately 230 cars on display out of a total of 600 vehicles in attendance. This constituted nearly 40 percent of the total vehicles present. Amongst this extraordinary selection were ultra-rare examples such as the Veneno Coupe, one of only three ever sold to the public, and a Sesto Elemento. The gathering also included a Centenario Coupe and Convertible, as well as a Reventón (one of 21). This collection of rare Lamborghini models had previously only been seen together at the factory’s museum, making the Las Vegas Concours a unique opportunity for attendees to witness such precious and high-performance Italian metal in one place. Expert Insight: I have attended numerous concours worldwide, and the diversity and exclusivity of the vehicles displayed at the Las Vegas Concours were unprecedented. The ability to witness the debut of a limited-production hypercar like the Huayra Codalunga alongside models that will never again be seen in such numbers is a testament to the event’s growing influence in the collector car community. What This Means for You: Should You Buy, Wait, or Rent/Invest? The rise of the Las Vegas Concours presents a critical juncture for automotive enthusiasts, collectors, and investors. The shift away from the traditional Pebble Beach-centric model has profound implications for how we perceive automotive value, access, and future trends. For Enthusiasts and Buyers: If your passion lies in cutting-edge hypercars and modern automotive design, the Las Vegas Concours should be at the top of your list. It is the premier venue for witnessing the introduction of the latest vehicles from marques like Lamborghini, Pagani, and Bugatti. The sheer quantity and rarity of the vehicles on display at the 2025 event were breathtaking, and the anticipation for the 2026 event is already building. Attending this event provides a unique opportunity to see these modern masterpieces firsthand, potentially increasing the desirability and long-term value of these vehicles in the collector market. For Investors and Collectors: The migration of manufacturers to The Las Vegas Concours indicates a strategic shift in the collector car market. While classic marques will always hold their historical value, the future of automotive performance and exclusivity lies in hypercars. Investing in these modern marvels now could prove lucrative in the long run, especially considering the increasing demand for these vehicles in the collector community. The cost of entry into this market is significant, but the potential for appreciation in value can be substantial. Should You Buy, Wait, or Rent/Invest?
Buy: If you are seeking to acquire a modern hypercar
