H2304015_Bienvenida peque The Rise of the Las Vegas Concours: Could the King’s Crown Be Slipping? The standard definition of a “concours d’elegance” is often summarized as a showcase for high-end automobiles, where entries are judged primarily on their visual refinement, presentation, and historical integrity. Yet, in the circles of automotive enthusiasts and collectors who invest substantial capital into high-value vehicles, this definition only scratches the surface. As collectors and attendees navigate the dense calendar of prestigious gatherings, a recurring question surfaces: Is the legendary Pebble Beach Concours still the pinnacle of the automotive world?
For years, the answer was a resounding “yes.” The Pebble Beach Concours, as the culminating event of the comprehensive Monterey Car Week, has long been recognized as the zenith of prestige. This week-long festival draws the world’s most esteemed collectors, designers, and marque enthusiasts to the Monterey Peninsula, culminating in an event that has defined automotive excellence for decades. However, as the automotive landscape rapidly evolves, the competitive pressure on this established hierarchy is becoming more intense. In recent years, rivals such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Goodwood Revival have emerged as powerful forces, each attracting a dedicated following with their unique blend of historical reverence and modern performance showcases. Similarly, Amelia Island in Florida and the avant-garde Moda Miami have carved out significant niches. Meanwhile, the established European pillars of Retromobile and the Audrain Concours have maintained their prominence. In this increasingly crowded ecosystem, the question persists: Is Pebble Beach still the undisputed champion of the concours circuit? A Shifting Balance of Power: Why the Vegas Concours Matters in 2026 While Pebble Beach retains its iconic status, it is increasingly evident that its principal heir apparent, The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, is facing a formidable challenger. The Quail, always regarded as an exceptional appetizer to the main course of the Pebble Beach Concours, has, for a growing demographic of automotive enthusiasts, already surpassed the traditional Sunday event in relevance. This shift is largely driven by the increasing enthusiasm for late-model and brand-new supercars and hypercars. Many attendees who travel to Monterey do so primarily to witness the debuts of the latest high-performance machines. These enthusiasts often express little interest in vintage vehicles, making the Quail’s focus on the cutting edge of automotive engineering particularly appealing. In fact, the demise of the Geneva International Auto Show has left a significant void in the supercar showcase calendar, a gap that the Quail has filled with remarkable success. Throughout the 2010s and early 2020s, the Quail became the preferred venue for manufacturers to unveil their most ambitious creations. The Lamborghini Aventador, for example, debuted at Geneva in 2011, followed by the ultra-exclusive Veneno in 2013. The successor to the Aventador, the Revuelto, was initially revealed through an online launch. However, the subsequent model, the Temerario, chose the Quail for its 2024 world premiere. Similarly, the Bugatti Divo (2018) and Mistral (2022) were both unveiled to the public at The Quail, while the Veyron’s successor, the Tourbillon, was presented there in 2025, alongside the seven-figure Fenomeno. The pattern extends to dozens of other manufacturers, confirming that The Quail has solidified its position as the premier destination for groundbreaking vehicles in the global automotive sphere. For many years, it seemed that The Quail’s position at the apex of the luxury automotive world was unassailable. However, the 2025 Las Vegas Concours, officially known as the Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, has disrupted this assumption. Although I had attended the Vegas Concours in 2024, I found it to be somewhat limited in scope, leaning heavily on the usual selection of automotive icons. Frankly, if it hadn’t been for a professional collaboration with Czinger, I might not have attended the 2025 event. Yet, I must admit, I was profoundly impressed by what I witnessed. The 2025 Las Vegas Concours: A Milestone of Unprecedented Scale To understand the impact of the 2025 Las Vegas Concours, one must first grasp the sheer scale of the event. The Wynn resort transformed into a breathtaking gallery of hyper-exotic automobiles, setting an entirely new standard for what a luxury car show can be. One of the most striking elements was the Bugatti exhibit. The organizers managed to assemble an astonishing 48 Veyrons on the resort lawns. For context, only 450 Veyrons were produced globally, and approximately 100 were sold in North America. The presence of 48 units represented over 10% of the total production, a feat that left many spectators speechless. The display was further enhanced by Bugatti’s own presentation, which featured a striking white Vitesse Super Sport to commemorate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary, along with a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a scale model of the upcoming Tourbillon—the 18-cylinder hybrid set to replace the Chiron. The density of Bugatti’s legacy in one location was truly mind-boggling. The interest extended far beyond Bugatti. The event featured more than 40 Pagani vehicles, including several Zondas, Zonda Revolutions, and dozens of Huayras, as well as Utopias. Of particular note was the premiere of the Huayra Codalunga Speedster, a limited-edition model Pagani plans to produce in only 10 units, priced at approximately $7 million each before taxes and tariffs. The mint-green prototype that was unveiled, owned by Apple CEO Tim Cook, represented a significant statement from the marque. The fact that the 2025 Las Vegas Concours hosted the largest Pagani gathering in North American history, combined with the personal attendance of Horatio Pagani himself—who was honored onstage for his design contributions—underscores the importance of this event. It is worth noting that the number of Paganis present exceeded the company’s annual production volume at the time, highlighting the exceptional nature of the exhibit.
For enthusiasts of Lamborghini, the Las Vegas Concours was equally staggering. It was, by all accounts, the largest Lamborghini gathering ever assembled in the world. The exact count was not officially released, but estimates suggest there were approximately 230 Lamborghinis present, representing nearly half of the 600 cars displayed. This aggregation included ultra-rare models that are rarely seen together in public, such as a Veneno Coupe (one of only three sold to the public; Lamborghini retained a fourth), a Sesto Elemento (one of 10), a Centenario coupe (one of 20) and convertible (one of 20), and a Reventón (one of 21). These “few-offs,” as Lamborghini now refers to them, were previously only displayed at the factory museum, making their simultaneous appearance at the Wynn a truly historic moment. This concentration of precious, high-horsepower Italian engineering was nothing short of breathtaking. The Financial Impact of the 2025 Vegas Concours: A New Model for Luxury Events While the sheer volume and rarity of the cars were impressive, the most significant factor that has shaken the foundation of the luxury automotive show landscape is the radical difference in the business model. Attendees and manufacturers have repeatedly questioned how the Las Vegas Concours can possibly achieve this level of scale and quality with such accessible pricing. For years, luxury automakers have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars to secure exhibition space at prestigious shows like The Quail. This exorbitant cost typically ranges from $400,000 to over $1 million for a single event, and it often takes years to secure a booth. In stark contrast, the Las Vegas Concours has successfully combined scale and affordability in a way that fundamentally alters the economics of participation for car manufacturers. Cost-Benefit Analysis for Automotive Brands Consider the significant cost burden for brands like Lamborghini, Bugatti, or Koenigsegg to display at The Quail. They must account for sponsorship fees, installation costs, travel and lodging for staff, and the logistical challenges of shipping irreplaceable vehicles. The return on this massive investment is often difficult to quantify, as the primary goal is often brand exposure rather than direct sales. The 2025 Las Vegas Concours presents a compelling alternative. Instead of paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for a booth, manufacturers pay a fraction of that cost. The Vegas Concours has successfully democratized the showroom experience for brands that typically operate at the highest end of the market. This shift signals a potential re-evaluation of how automotive brands invest in marketing and event participation, potentially leading to a redistribution of industry support away from long-standing institutions toward more innovative, value-driven platforms. Ticket Pricing and Attendee Accessibility The financial accessibility is not limited to the manufacturers. For attendees, the cost of admission is dramatically lower than at other high-end shows. While ticket prices for The Quail were reportedly around $1,600 for first-time attendees and $1,300 for legacy guests in 2025, tickets for the Las Vegas Concours cost approximately $100 per person. This disparity is enormous, making the Vegas Concours accessible to a broader audience of car enthusiasts who may not have the disposable income to attend other premium events. The Luxury Experience Reimagined
Beyond the cost, the Las Vegas Concours offers a distinct experience for attendees. While events like The Quail are often characterized by a narrow focus on ultra-wealthy collectors, the Wynn event
