Las Vegas Could Be Coming for Pebble Beach The allure of exclusive automotive gatherings has always been strong within the industry. For decades, the hallowed turf of Pebble Beach has reigned supreme, hosting the most prestigious display of historic and luxury vehicles. Yet, an undercurrent of change has been building, culminating in the 2026 Las Vegas Concours at Wynn Las Vegas, an event that is rapidly challenging the established hierarchy of concours culture. The Evolution of Automotive Excellence The defining characteristic of a “concours d’elegance” centers on a competition where vehicles and accessories are primarily judged by their visual appeal and overall condition. This concept has evolved significantly over the years, particularly as the industry pivots toward hybridization, electrification, and forward-thinking design. However, a significant divergence is emerging: the market is splitting between classic automotive passion and cutting-edge innovation.
For years, the annual Monterey Car Week, with its anchor event at Pebble Beach, has served as the undisputed pinnacle of the automotive world. The week culminates in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, a historical showcase that remains a significant milestone for aficionados of classic automobiles. Nonetheless, conversations within the industry often center on comparisons: Is the Goodwood Festival of Speed superior to Pebble? What about the Goodwood Revival, Amelia Island, or Moda Miami? Each event possesses a distinct charm and appeal to different segments of the automotive community. Pebble Beach: The Historic King in Question Indeed, as the world of vintage machinery gathers to appreciate blue-chip automobiles, the question inevitably arises: Is Pebble Beach still the gold standard? In the realm of historical preservation and classic car appreciation, the answer remains yes. Pebble Beach still reigns supreme as the definitive luxury car show on the planet. However, the traditional heir to the throne, The Quail, is facing increasingly stiff competition from a new contender with modern credentials: the Las Vegas Concours at Wynn. Why The Quail Is No Longer the Undisputed Frontrunner The Quail, officially known as The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering, has historically served as the perfect prologue to the main event on Sunday at the Pebble Beach Concours. In fact, for a growing number of enthusiasts, The Quail has long surpassed the Sunday spectacle. These individuals are typically passionate about late-model and cutting-edge supercars and hypercars. I’ve lost count of how many automotive friends travel to Car Week but depart early Sunday morning, expressing disinterest in “a bunch of old cars.” Furthermore, the decline of the Geneva International Auto Show left a significant gap in the supercar calendar, a vacuum The Quail has filled effectively. This transition signals a shift in focus from the historical legacy of vintage automobiles to the future of high-performance engineering. Supercar Reveals and OEM Strategies Several high-profile debuts at The Quail underscore its rising status as a launchpad for next-generation vehicles. For example, the Lamborghini Aventador debuted at Geneva in 2011, and the expensive Veneno followed in 2013. The Aventador’s replacement, the Revuelto, was revealed online, but the Temerario (the Huracán’s successor) made its public debut at The Quail in 2024. Similarly, the seven-figure Fenomeno debuted at The Quail in 2025. Bugatti unveiled the Chiron in Geneva in 2016, but the Bugatti Divo (2018) and Mistral (2022) were both introduced to the world at The Quail. The same holds true for dozens of other vehicles. In short, The Quail has established itself as the premier venue for showcasing these types of groundbreaking machines. The Shift: From Vintage Luxury to Modern Spectacle Until recently, I believed The Quail’s position in the global automotive landscape was secure. However, after attending the 2026 Las Vegas Concours, I am no longer certain. I should clarify that I also attended the 2024 Vegas Concours and, while enjoyable, it felt regional, featuring largely the usual assortment of cars. In fact, if not for a project with Czinger, I probably wouldn’t have attended this year. But I am profoundly glad that I did. This event marks a significant evolution in the automotive concours landscape, signaling a shift in where luxury automakers choose to debut their most exclusive vehicles. The Vegas Concours: An Explosion of Exotics The 2026 Las Vegas Concours at Wynn transformed the Las Vegas Strip into a mecca for automotive aficionados, featuring a level of exclusivity and volume typically reserved for Pebble Beach or The Quail. This event is not just another regional showcase; it’s a statement of intent from organizers determined to create the most spectacular automotive event of the year.
The Bugatti Spectacle: A Testament to Automotive Legacy One of the most striking aspects of the 2026 Las Vegas Concours was the unprecedented collection of Bugatti Veyrons. The Wynn displayed an astounding 48 Veyrons on the lawn—a staggering figure considering that only 450 were built in total, and fewer than 100 were sold in North America. To put this in perspective, one of every ten Veyrons ever produced was present in Las Vegas. Bugatti also showcased a stunning white Vitesse Super Sport to commemorate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary, alongside a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a model of the upcoming Tourbillon, the 18-cylinder hybrid replacing the Chiron. The visual impact of having more than 10 percent of all Bugatti Veyrons ever built gathered in one place is difficult to overstate; it remains a truly spectacular demonstration of automotive engineering. The Evolution of High-Performance Supercars It appears that the younger generation also appreciates high-end performance vehicles, as there were more than 40 Pagani automobiles on display. While the exact number was not officially confirmed (I was too mesmerized by the Bugattis to count), there were several Zondas, including a Zonda Revolution (one of only five). Additionally, there were dozens of Huayras, numerous Utopias, and, notably, the introduction of the Huayra Codalunga Speedster, a model Pagani plans to build only ten of, at a starting price of $7 million each before taxes and tariffs. For those interested, the mint-green model displayed under cover belonged to Apple’s Tim Cook. Even if these striking carbon-titanium extroverts aren’t your preference, the fact that the 2026 Las Vegas Concours was not only the largest Pagani gathering ever held in North America but also the venue chosen by Horatio Pagani (who was honored onstage by emcee Justin Bell for his contributions to automotive design) and his team to introduce a new vehicle speaks volumes about the event’s prestige. The Lamborghini Showcase: A Milestone Gathering The Lamborghini display was equally breathtaking for fans of such vehicles. The 2026 Wynn Vegas Concours was the largest gathering of Lamborghinis ever assembled. While I didn’t count, the number circulating was approximately 230. That’s 230 out of the total 600 cars present that Saturday. The sheer scale is mind-blowing. Among them was a Veneno Coupe (one of only three sold to the public; the factory retains a fourth one), a Sesto Elemento (one of ten), a Centenario coupe (one of twenty) and convertible (one of twenty), and a Reventón (one of twenty-one). The last time I witnessed all these “few-offs” (as Lamborghini now calls them) together in one place was at the factory’s museum. It was a staggering display of precious, high-horsepower Italian metal and composites. A Comprehensive Showcase of Automotive Masterpieces In the interest of brevity, I am leaving out the Koenigseggs, the Gumpert Apollo, the Czingers, the Nilu, the debut of the McLaren Project Endurance race car, all the cars that were actually judged (including a former and insane Pebble Beach Concours-winning 1929 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Barker Tourer 26/120/180 that also won the best of show prewar award here), the HWA EVO, a Mercedes-AMG One, two Oldsmobile Aerotechs, and a McLaren F1. This extensive list of rare and significant vehicles underscores the depth of the 2026 Las Vegas Concours. The presence of such a diverse array of historical and performance cars demonstrates that this event is rapidly becoming a serious competitor to the traditional bastions of concours excellence. The Unspoken Challenge: Will This Change the Game? Two themes consistently emerged during conversations with attendees at the Wynn Las Vegas Concours. The first, and perhaps most obvious, question was, “How on earth are they going to top this next year?” I don’t know, but good luck to the Wynn. The second, and arguably more intriguing question, came from the automotive manufacturers: “Should we even bother doing The Quail next year?” That’s a very good question. Perhaps I should also extend my best wishes to The Quail. The Cost of Automotive Exhibitions
One of the most striking differences between these events is the financial barrier to entry for attendees. The cost of a single ticket to The Quail last year was $1,300. That’s $1,300 for those who have attended in the past (what they refer to as “legacy ticket holders”). For first-time attendees, the price was $1,60
