Dodge Charger Daytona Banshee EV Cancelled Before It Even Arrives
Following a series of leadership changes, Dodge has not only cooled on electric vehicles, but it’s running full speed away from them.
Dodge has stopped the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee in its tracks before the model was even put on sale, according to a report from Mopar Insiders.
The Banshee was previously intended to serve as a range-topping trim for the electric Charger lineup.
A representative for Dodge declined to confirm the report to Car and Driver when we reached out.
Dodge’s aggressive shift away from the path of electrification that it previously put itself on is continuing. According to a new report from Mopar Insiders, the automaker is cancelling plans to build the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee before the model even reached production.
The Banshee was intended to serve as an electric halo model for the brand, arriving as a successor to the internal-combustion SRT Hellcat. While the standard Charger Daytona EV rides on a 400-volt architecture and maxes out at 670 horsepower, the Banshee was supposed to have an 800-volt architecture and a two-speed transmission. It was intended to arrive sometime this year, and while the company never confirmed horsepower figures, estimates put it around the 1000-pony mark.

With the Banshee out of the picture, the question of how Dodge will utilize its recently revived SRT brand is brought into question. The obvious answer seems to be that Dodge will continue its about-face with the Hemi and develop a new V-8-powered Charger. The automaker continues to use the 6.2-liter V-8 in the Durango SUV, which is being sold exclusively with the Hemi for 2026. Other Stellantis brands are making similar decisions, with the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 returning to the Ram 1500 lineup, and Jeep is not only doubling down on the 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 in the Wrangler Rubicon 392 but teasing a Gladiator version as well.
Stellantis, of course, hasn’t confirmed anything of the sort, but the decision to axe the Banshee is in line with other recent choices made by the automaker. A representative for Dodge declined to confirm the report to Car and Driver. “Stellantis continues to reassess its product strategy to align with consumer demand. Our plan ensures we offer customers a range of vehicles with flexible powertrain options that best meet their needs,” the representative said in a statement to Car and Driver.
