H2304030_An Abandoned Dog with a Broken Soul The New Contender: Can the Las Vegas Concours Dethrone Pebble Beach? By [Your Name], Industry Expert & Automotive Strategist If you’ve spent enough time immersing yourself in the elite world of collector cars, you’ve undoubtedly encountered the question: “Is this show better than the iconic Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance?” This isn’t a frivolous debate; it’s a conversation about influence, access, and the shifting sands of luxury culture. Pebble Beach, particularly when viewed within the broader context of the annual Monterey Car Week, remains the undeniable pinnacle. The combination of events offers a concentrated experience of extreme automotive wealth, culminating in the most prestigious judging on the calendar. Yet, the debate rages on. Is the Goodwood Festival of Speed superior? What about the Goodwood Revival, Amelia Island, or the burgeoning Moda Miami?
In the realm where the world’s most discerning collectors and enthusiasts congregate, the question persists: Is Pebble Beach still the absolute king? The truth is, Pebble Beach still commands respect. However, the heir apparent—The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering—might be facing a new challenger for the crown. And that challenger just might be the Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance. Why The Quail Is Losing Its Luster The Quail has always served as an incredible appetizer to the main event. For a growing segment of the automotive community, The Quail has long since overtaken Pebble’s Sunday event. These enthusiasts are particularly drawn to late-model supercars and hypercars. I’ve lost count of how many collectors attend Car Week but leave Sunday morning because they have no interest in “old cars.” Furthermore, the demise of the Geneva International Auto Show left a void in the supercar calendar, a vacuum that The Quail has been filling adequately—until now. Consider these examples. The Lamborghini Aventador debuted at Geneva in 2011, and the highly anticipated Veneno made its entrance in 2013. The Aventador’s replacement, the Revuelto, had an online unveiling, but the Temerario (Huracán’s successor) was first seen at The Quail in 2024. The same holds true for the multi-million dollar Fenomeno, which debuted at The Quail in 2025. Bugatti unveiled the Chiron in Geneva in 2016; however, both the Bugatti Divo (2018) and Mistral (2022) made their global debuts at The Quail. These examples extend to dozens of other vehicles. In essence, The Quail has established itself as the premier venue for these cutting-edge machines. Until recently, I considered The Quail’s position secure. Then I attended the 2026 Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance (officially known as Concours at Wynn Las Vegas), and I am no longer sure of its future. I should note that I also attended the 2024 Vegas event, and while enjoyable, it felt regional, if not provincial. There were some great cars, but they were mostly the usual suspects. Frankly, if I hadn’t been working with Czinger, I likely wouldn’t have attended this year. But boy, am I glad I did. What Exactly Is the Las Vegas Concours? This year, the Wynn Las Vegas featured an astounding 48 Bugatti Veyrons on display. Yes, you read that correctly. Of the 450 Veyrons built globally, and the 100 sold in North America, 48 were present in Vegas. In fact, there were 49—Bugatti displayed a stunning white Vitesse Super Sport to commemorate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary, alongside a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a model of the upcoming 18-cylinder hybrid, the Tourbillon, which will replace the Chiron. Displaying more than 10 percent of all Bugatti Veyrons ever built in one place left my head spinning. The kids like Paganis, too, right? Because there were more than 40 of them. I didn’t get the exact count (I was too busy drooling over the Veyrons), but there were several Zondas, including a Zonda Revolution (one of five), dozens of Huayras, a bunch of Utopias, and—worryingly for The Quail—the debut of the Huayra Codalunga Speedster, which Pagani plans to produce in a limited run of 10 cars, each priced at $7,000,000 before taxes and tariffs, if you’re interested. (The mint-green one under the covers belongs to Apple’s Tim Cook.) Even if these carbon-titanium extroverts aren’t your thing, the fact that the 2026 Las Vegas Concours was not only the largest Pagani gathering in North American history, but also the venue where Horatio Pagani (honored by emcee Justin Bell for his contributions to car design) and his team chose to introduce a new vehicle, says a lot. More on that later. Back to the 40+ Paganis: That’s more cars than the factory produces in a single year. The Lamborghini section was just as mind-blowing for enthusiasts of such vehicles. First off, the 2026 Wynn Las Vegas Concours was the largest gathering of Lamborghinis ever. Yes, ever. Again, I didn’t count, but the number being bandied about was around 230. That’s 230 of the 600 cars present that Saturday. Simply mind-blowing. Of those 230, there was a Veneno Coupe (one of three ever sold to the public; the factory kept a fourth), a Sesto Elemento (one of 10), a Centenario Coupe (one of 20) and Convertible (one of 20), and a Reventón (one of 21). The last time I saw all those “few-offs” (as Lamborghini now calls them) together in one place was at the factory’s museum. It was a flabbergasting display of precious, high-horsepower Italian metal and composites. The Strategic Alliances Behind Vegas What truly makes the 2026 Las Vegas Concours a formidable competitor isn’t just the caliber of the vehicles, but the sophisticated marketing and strategic alliances supporting it. This event isn’t merely a display of cars; it’s a calculated business move by the Wynn Resorts leadership, leveraging their existing relationships with luxury brands and high-net-worth individuals. In my decade of experience in automotive strategy, I’ve seen how powerful the “halo effect” can be. The Wynn isn’t just hosting a car show; they’re curating an experience that perfectly aligns with their brand identity. By attracting marques like Bugatti, Pagani, and Lamborghini, they elevate the prestige of their property. This attracts VIP guests who generate revenue from their casino, restaurants, and hotel suites. For collectors attending, the added value is the convenience of having these VIP guests—often their friends and business partners—in the same place at the same time.
This integration between automotive luxury and luxury hospitality is seamless in Vegas. Unlike Pebble Beach, where attendees often commute between Monterey, Pebble Beach, and Carmel, the Wynn Concours keeps everything within one ecosystem. The transportation logistics are smoother, and the networking opportunities are centralized. This is where the true value proposition lies for modern collectors and automotive brands. They are investing in visibility where their customer base already is, creating synergy rather than just sponsorship. Cost Analysis: The Luxury Consumer Perspective To understand why collectors and brands are flocking to Las Vegas, we must dissect the financial implications of attending these events. Ticket Pricing: The Quail: Single tickets cost $1,300 for returning attendees (referred to as “legacy ticket holders”). First-time attendees pay $1,600. Las Vegas Concours: Tickets are priced at a mere $100. This difference is staggering. A single ticket to The Quail can cost as much as 16 times more than a ticket to the Las Vegas Concours. OEM Sponsorship Costs: The Quail: It costs approximately $400,000 for an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to secure a car stand for just six hours. Las Vegas Concours: The Wynn charges approximately 1/20th of the cost of The Quail’s sponsorship. For automotive brands, the cost-benefit analysis is increasingly shifting towards Vegas. If a manufacturer can display their marquee cars at a fraction of the price and reach a similar audience, the financial logic becomes undeniable. Travel and Accommodation: Attendees often face exorbitant hotel prices near Pebble Beach, with one friend reporting $1,100 a night at a nearby motel, with a minimum five-night stay. The logistics of moving between different venues, navigating traffic, and finding dinner reservations can also be a nightmare. In Las Vegas, these frustrations melt away. Hotels are plentiful, and the city is built to handle large gatherings. Reservations are easier, and transportation is generally more efficient. For high-net-worth individuals who value their time above all else, these logistical advantages translate into tangible financial savings. The overall experience is more cohesive and less stressful.
