This gathering serves as the ultimate arbiter of automotive history and craftsmanship. However, as the landscape evolves, the question “Is Pebble still the king?” frequently arises among enthusiasts, collectors, and manufacturers. While the Sunday event remains the crown jewel, The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering has long been considered its primary challenger. For those who favor cutting-edge engineering and high-performance supercars and hypercars, The Quail represents the premier showcase. The void left by the cessation of the Geneva International Motor Show has been strategically filled by this event, solidifying its position as the primary venue for debuting the latest models.
In 2025, we witnessed the launch of the Lamborghini Temerario, the successor to the Huracán, at The Quail. Prior to this, the Fenomeno, a seven-figure vehicle, also made its global debut at the same event in 2025. In 2016, Bugatti presented the Chiron in Geneva; however, the Bugatti Divo (2018) and Mistral (2022) were both unveiled to the world at The Quail. This pattern holds true for numerous other manufacturers, underscoring The Quail’s emergence as the world’s leading venue for these types of vehicles. Until this past Halloween, I believed The Quail’s standing in the global automotive hierarchy was secure. Then I attended the 2025 Las Vegas Concours (officially known as Concours at Wynn Las Vegas), and now I’m not so sure. I should preface this by explaining I also attended the 2024 Vegas Concours and, while I had fun, it struck me as regional if not provincial. There were some pretty cool cars, but more like the usual suspects. In fact, if it weren’t for a project I was working on with Czinger (which brought me along as its guest), I probably wouldn’t have bothered going this year. But man, am I glad I went. This comprehensive analysis will delve into the unprecedented success of the 2025 Las Vegas Concours, explore its impact on the supercar market, and discuss the strategic implications for both collectors and manufacturers looking to compare luxury car events and stay ahead of industry trends. What Defines a Premium Automotive Gathering? The standard definition of “concours d’elegance” is “a show or contest of vehicles and accessories in which the entries are judged chiefly on excellence of appearance and turnout.” While Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance adheres to this definition, it also extends to a wider spectrum of events. The term often encompasses the entire Monterey Car Week, a week-long spectacle featuring luxury car auctions, road rallies, and competitive judging. The distinction between a classic car show and a modern supercar exhibition lies in the focus of the competition. At Pebble Beach, the emphasis is on historical preservation, restoration excellence, and automotive heritage. The criteria for judging typically revolve around originality, accuracy of restoration, and historical significance. In contrast, The Quail and the Las Vegas Concours are heavily focused on current innovation, pushing the boundaries of performance and design. For instance, the 2025 Las Vegas Concours attracted not just collectors, but also major automotive manufacturer executives and a significant contingent of enthusiasts focused on the latest new cars and electric vehicles. This shift indicates a growing preference for modern marvels over classic treasures, although both events attract a high-net-worth audience. The Spectacle of the 2025 Las Vegas Concours The Wynn Las Vegas hosted an assembly of cars that defies conventional categorization. The organizers secured a total of 48 Bugatti Veyrons, representing a significant portion of the vehicle’s entire production run. To put this into perspective, of the 450 Veyrons ever produced globally, 48 were displayed in Las Vegas. The Bugatti Vitesse Super Sport was also in attendance to celebrate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary, alongside a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a prototype of the upcoming 18-cylinder hybrid, the Tourbillon. Displaying more than 10% of all the Bugatti Veyrons ever built in a single location left attendees mesmerized. The Pagani Presence: A Milestone Achievement The attention was not solely on Bugatti. The event also boasted more than 40 Pagani vehicles, featuring several Zondas (including one of only five Zonda Revolutions), numerous Huayras, a collection of Utopias, and, notably, the Pagani Huayra Codalunga Speedster. This last model is planned for a limited production run of ten, with a price tag of approximately $7,000,000 before taxes and tariffs. The green model under cover was confirmed to belong to Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook. This demonstration not only marked the largest gathering of Paganis in North America but also the occasion where Horatio Pagani himself (honored for his contributions to car design) and his team chose to introduce a vehicle. This level of exclusivity and attention from the manufacturer is indicative of the prestige of this event, potentially rivaling the industry’s established players.
Lamborghini’s Unprecedented Display If the Bugatti and Pagani displays were impressive, the Lamborghini section was nothing short of astonishing. The 2025 Las Vegas Concours hosted the largest gathering of Lamborghinis in history, with an estimated 230 models present out of the 600 total cars exhibited. This constitutes a significant portion of the event’s attendees and represents a formidable achievement in luxury automotive marketing. Among the displayed vehicles were rare specimens such as the Veneno Coupe (one of only three privately sold), the Sesto Elemento (one of ten), the Centenario Coupe and Convertible (one of twenty each), and the Reventón (one of twenty-one). The last time these highly exclusive models were assembled in one location was at the Lamborghini factory museum. It was a breathtaking spectacle of precious, high-horsepower Italian metal and composite materials. A Comprehensive Exhibit of Engineering Excellence While the focus on modern supercars is undeniable, the Las Vegas Concours also celebrated engineering excellence across various categories. The event featured an array of Koenigseggs, the Gumpert Apollo, Czingers, Nilu, the McLaren Project Endurance race car debut, and several vehicles that were actually judged in the competition. These included a 1929 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Barker Tourer, which had previously won the Pebble Beach Concours prewar best of show. Other notable inclusions were the HWA EVO, a Mercedes-AMG One, two Oldsmobile Aerotechs, and a McLaren F1. This extensive variety demonstrates that the 2025 Las Vegas Concours is not merely a supercar show; it is a comprehensive exhibition of automotive artistry. What This Means for You As an industry expert with over a decade of experience navigating the automotive landscape, I have observed firsthand the evolution of luxury car gatherings. The 2025 Las Vegas Concours represents a paradigm shift that collectors, manufacturers, and enthusiasts must recognize. For collectors, this means that the market for modern supercars has never been stronger. The exclusivity and attention garnered by these vehicles at the Las Vegas Concours are likely to drive up their value. Furthermore, with Lamborghini and Pagani choosing this venue for their latest debuts, it is becoming increasingly important to attend these events to stay informed about new releases and market trends. This is particularly relevant for those interested in car investments or looking to buy luxury cars. Manufacturers must assess their marketing strategies. The cost of exhibiting at The Quail—where a single ticket can cost $1,300 (for legacy holders) and $1,600 (for first-time attendees), and the cost for OEMs is around $400,000 for six hours—is significantly higher than the Las Vegas Concours, which charges approximately 1/20 of that. Attendees at the Las Vegas Concours pay $100 per ticket, equating to about $2 per Bugatti Veyron on display. This cost efficiency may prompt automotive manufacturers to reconsider their participation in established events, potentially shifting focus to newer, more affordable luxury car venues. For enthusiasts, the choice between events is becoming more complex. If you are interested in historic automobiles and the prestige of the traditional concours, Pebble Beach remains the gold standard. However, if you are passionate about modern engineering, cutting-edge supercars, and the latest technological advancements, the Las Vegas Concours is undoubtedly the place to be. This is not merely a matter of preference; it is a strategic decision about where to allocate your time, resources, and attention within the luxury automotive ecosystem. Should You Buy, Wait, or Rent/Invest?
The automotive market in 2026 remains highly volatile, influenced by fluctuating interest rates, evolving car loan options, and
