H2504027_On my way home from work, suddenly a woman stopped my car and showed me an unconscious dog and its p The Great Automotive Succession: Is The Quail’s Reign Over? A Deep Dive into the 2026 Concours Scene For decades, the automotive cognoscenti have operated under a widely accepted truth: the pinnacle of the elite concours circuit is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. While this hallowed event, part of the sprawling Monterey Car Week, remains the undisputed sovereign of classic automotive excellence, the landscape is undergoing a seismic shift. The heir apparent to the throne—The Quail—is facing a fierce challenge from a new dynasty rising in the heart of the desert: The Concours at Wynn Las Vegas.
As an industry veteran with a decade of experience navigating the high-stakes world of automotive events, I have watched The Quail mature from a prestigious warm-up act to a global epicenter for new hypercar debuts. Yet, the dramatic performance of the 2026 Las Vegas Concours suggests the old guard may be on the verge of a historic dethronement. The question echoing through the rarefied air of this annual automotive bacchanal is no longer just “Is Pebble Beach still the best?” but rather, “Is The Quail’s supremacy slipping?” To understand this shift, we must move beyond the nostalgia of vintage machines and look at the cold, hard economics of automotive marketing. The cost to exhibit at top concours is astronomical, forcing manufacturers to re-evaluate where they deploy their limited budgets for unveiling world-changing products. As we dissect this delicate power dynamic, we will examine the data, the strategy, and the undeniable allure of these premier car shows that define the very essence of high-end automobiles. What This Means for You: Navigating the Evolving Automotive Landscape For the discerning enthusiast, collector, or potential buyer of supercars, the rise of the Las Vegas Concours signifies a critical shift in the market. Here is what you need to know: For Collectors: Strategic Access: You now have a new premium venue to see the world’s most exclusive vehicles. As luxury car shows multiply, the ability to attend diverse events like the Audrain Concours and the Moda Miami provides unparalleled access to automotive excellence without the commitment to a single city. Investment Opportunities: As manufacturers launch groundbreaking models at Vegas, the demand for these rare vehicles increases. Potential buyers should monitor debuts at this event for future investment opportunities. For Manufacturers: High-Return Marketing: The cost of participation at events like The Quail has become prohibitive. By leveraging the high-value audience and lower exhibitor fees at the Wynn Las Vegas Concours, brands can achieve similar or even greater marketing impact with a significantly smaller mortgage rates-style investment. Shifting Priorities: Companies are realizing that the traditional European automotive shows are no longer the sole gateways to premium visibility. The success of the 2026 Vegas Concours proves that automotive gatherings in North America are now center stage for the global launch of their most ambitious projects. The Quail: A Premium Powerhouse on the Cusp The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering has always served as the perfect appetizer to the Sunday main course that is the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. However, this automotive event has matured into much more than a warm-up. For a growing segment of the car world, The Quail has eclipsed Pebble’s Sunday proceedings, specifically attracting those who favor late-model, brand-new supercars and hypercars. I’ve lost count of how many friends make the pilgrimage to Car Week but depart Sunday morning, having zero interest in vintage automobiles and classic car shows. The abrupt demise of the Geneva International Auto Show left a substantial vacuum in the supercar calendar, a void that The Quail has filled with remarkable efficiency.
Consider some key examples from the recent past: The Lamborghini Aventador made its global debut at Geneva in 2011. The ultra-exclusive Veneno debuted at Geneva in 2013. The Aventador’s replacement, the Revuelto, premiered with an online reveal, but the Temerario (the Huracán’s successor) was first unveiled at The Quail in 2024. Similarly, the seven-figure Fenomeno made its 2025 debut at The Quail. Bugatti unveiled the Chiron in Geneva back in 2016. However, the Bugatti Divo (2018) and Mistral (2022) were both first shown to the world at The Quail. This phenomenon holds true for dozens of other automakers. In essence, The Quail has evolved into the premier global stage for these high-performance machines. Until this past Halloween, I believed The Quail’s position in the global automotive hierarchy was secure. Then I attended the 2026 Las Vegas Concours (officially known as Concours at Wynn Las Vegas), and I now have serious doubts. I must preface this by explaining that I also attended the 2024 Vegas Concours, and while I had a good time, it struck me as provincial and regional. There were some outstanding cars, but largely they were the same new car models you see at other shows. In fact, if it weren’t for a project I was working on with Czinger, I probably wouldn’t have bothered attending this year. But man, am I glad I did. What Is The 2026 Las Vegas Concours? A Groundbreaking Collection The 2026 Wynn Las Vegas Concours delivered a level of automotive spectacle that defied expectations. The organizers achieved what many deemed impossible: they curated an exhibition of luxury supercars and classic sports cars that truly rivals Pebble Beach in quality and exclusivity. Consider the sheer volume of marques on display. The Wynn had an astonishing 48 Bugatti Veyrons on the lawn. You read that correctly. Of the 450 total Veyrons ever built and the 100 sold in North America, 48 were displayed in Las Vegas. Well, 49, as Bugatti also brought a stunning white Vitesse Super Sport to celebrate the Veyron’s 20th anniversary. They also showcased a Bolide, Centodieci, Chiron Super Sport, Divo, Mistral, and a prototype model of the upcoming Tourbillon—the revolutionary 18-cylinder hybrid set to replace the Chiron. Displaying more than 10 percent of all Bugatti Veyrons ever produced in a single venue is a mind-boggling feat that continues to resonate throughout the automotive community. The children’s entertainment at the event did not distract from the main attraction, of course. Pagani enthusiasts were just as delighted. I didn’t count the exact number—I was too busy drooling over the Veyrons—but there were more than 40 Paganis on display. This included several Zondas, among them a Zonda Revolution (one of only five ever made), dozens of Huayras, a bunch of Utopias, and—worryingly for The Quail—the debut of the Huayra Codalunga Speedster. Pagani plans to produce only 10 of these models at a staggering price of $7 million each before taxes and tariffs. (The mint-green unit on display in Vegas, still under covers, belongs to Apple’s Tim Cook.) Even if these carbon-titanium extroverts aren’t your thing, the fact that the 2025 Las Vegas Concours was not only the largest Pagani gathering ever held in North America but also that Horatio Pagani (honored onstage by emcee Justin Bell for his contributions to car design) and his team chose this event to introduce a new model says something profound about the changing automotive landscape. (This is a crucial note on their new car prices and upcoming production numbers.) More on that in a bit. Back to the 40+ Paganis: That number is larger than the factory’s annual production rate. The Lamborghini section was equally mind-blowing for those who appreciate these exceptional machines. First off, the 2025 Wynn Vegas Concours was the largest gathering of Lamborghinis ever assembled. Yes, ever. Again, I didn’t count, but the unofficial tally being whispered around was about 230. That represents 230 of the 600 cars present that Saturday. Simply astonishing. Of those 230 Lamborghinis, there was a Veneno Coupe (one of only three sold to the public; the factory kept a fourth), a Sesto Elemento (one of ten), a Centenario Coupe (one of 20) and Convertible (one of 20), and a Reventón (one of 21). The last time I saw all these “few-offs,” as Lamborghini now calls them, in the same place was at the factory museum. It was a staggering display of precious, high-horsepower Italian metal and composites.
In an attempt at brevity, I have omitted all the Koenigseggs, the Gumpert Apollo, the Czingers, the Nilu, the McLaren Project Endurance race car debut, all the cars that were actually judged (including a former and insane Pebble Beach Concours-winning 1929 Mercedes-Benz 680 S Barker Tourer that won pre-war best of show here as well), the HWA EVO, a Mercedes-AMG One, two Oldsmobile Aerotechs, and
